Burning mall prompts massive response from Los Angeles County firefighters

A shopping center erupted in smoke and fire Thursday morning, prompting a second alarm response from firefighters in Lynwood.

Sky5 was on the scene on Atlantic Avenue between Elmwood Avenue and Imperial near the 710 Freeway at 7 a.m.


Heavy smoke could be seen coming from the mall, which houses about eight stores.

Nearly a dozen firefighters were on the roof of the building trying to open ventilation holes.

At one point a second alarm was declared to obtain additional resources.

The teams seemed to get the upper hand on the situation shortly after 7 am.

There was no immediate information on the possible cause of the fire or whether anyone was injured.
