Divisions in the United States over gun control will be amplified in the run-up to November’s presidential election. This has been particularly severe in the state of Tennessee. A year ago, a school shooting in Nashville, the state capital, that left three nine-year-old children dead sparked protests in the legislative building.

Democratic Rep. Justin Jones, megaphone in hand, backed protesters’ calls for tighter controls and was later expelled.
