The organization wants to hear from people who use the roads in Duval, St. Johns, Clay and Nassau counties.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Whether driving or biking, Jeff Sheffield, director of the North Florida Transportation Planning Organization, says everyone depends on the same thing: the roads, which is why the organization wants feedback from the public for your road wish list.

“Making sure people get where they want to go in a timely manner, whether it’s work, play or shopping,” Sheffield said. “And doing that is not a one-time project or a pet project.”

Sheffield says the increase in new residents in the region has affected not only traffic, but also road conditions.

“As we look at these growth rates in Florida that are overly comparative to previous years, we can see the demand coming,” Sheffield said. First Coast News.

Sheffield adds that planning future projects now will help the organization get ahead of the expected population increase of full-time residents or simply tourists.

“Mainly when you’re driving, county lines and municipal boundaries don’t mean anything,” Sheffield said.

“You’re trying to get to where you’re trying to get for whatever reason,” said Wiley Page, senior transportation planner at Atkins Realis.

Page has been involved in the development of hundreds of highway projects over the years and says adding people’s opinions will help them decide which projects get priority.

“It’s a very challenging issue because we’re looking at projects that will be needed within the next 10 years and we don’t have the money to do it,” Page explained.

The organization wants to hear from commuters in Duval, St. Johns, Clay and Nassau counties about what projects they should invest in now.

“Every trip has the potential to be a regional trip and we have to make sure those connections are enough to take care of that,” Page said. First Coast News.
