In a Facebook post, the USFWS in North Carolina said the whale washed up in the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge. They went on to say in the post that the whale was now anchored so biologists could perform the necropsy when the tide permitted.

The post was made around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, after people reported to the USFWS in North Carolina that they had seen the dead whale.
