Fatal hit-and-run in Phoenix: 1 dead, 1 arrested

PHOENIX — A suspect has been arrested for her alleged role in a fatal hit-and-run Thursday night, authorities said.

Ilisia Lujan, 28, was arrested Friday, the Phoenix Police Department said.

He allegedly hit a man in the area near Thunderbird Road and Black Canyon Highway around 10:40 p.m. Thursday.

The man, William Sears, 43, was riding his scooter west on Thunderbird Road when Lujan struck him, police said.

Officers and fire personnel responded to the scene around 11 p.m. They provided emergency medical treatment, but Sears was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives “worked tirelessly throughout the night” to identify Luján as the culprit, police said.

She was charged with one count of leaving the scene of a fatal accident, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
