LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Two people were killed in a truck crash on southbound Interstate 65 in Austin, Indiana, Monday night.

The crash occurred around 11:50 p.m. on southbound Interstate 65 near the 33 mile marker, just south of the Austin exit.

Indiana State Police said in a news release that when they arrived, they found three trucks involved in the crash and two of them were on fire.

Officers believe a white Volvo truck was stopped due to construction traffic near the 31 mile marker. A second semi-truck then slowed to a stop, but a third semi-truck did not slow down, striking the second and causing it to hit the first.

Huls confirmed that the drivers in the second and third semi-finals died. The driver of the first semi was not injured.

Police said Friday that the driver of the second semi was identified as Julianne Reid, 55, of Indianapolis, and the driver of the third semi was Damion Calvin Stewart, 38, of Miami, Florida.

Investigators believe Stewart’s truck initially struck Reid’s truck from behind before both caught fire.

A third person in one of the trucks was airlifted to UofL Hospital with severe burns, Huls said. The driver is in critical condition.

The interstate was closed southbound for several hours Tuesday morning.

Huls posted on X around 12:45 pm Tuesday that all lanes were back open.
