Upper Merion Township police are warning residents to be alert due to an increase in Honda thefts.

Police said in recent months they have seen an increase in car thefts involving various Honda models, specifically CRVs, Accords and newer Civics.

According to police, thieves can break into cars in just under five minutes and they don’t even need a key. Thieves have figured out how to defeat the computer systems of stolen vehicles.

Police recommend all Honda drivers take several safety precautions:

  • Subscribe to the Honda Link tracking service. You can apply online or at a local Honda dealership.
  • Buy “The Club” steering wheel lock device.
  • Purchase Apple Air Tags and place them in your vehicle. This can help authorities track your vehicle if it is stolen.
  • Immediately report any suspicious activity to our police department.
