Attorney General Ashley Moody warns Floridians about the dangers of opioids.

And it’s asking neighbors to properly dispose of old and unwanted medications.

He made a visit to West Palm Beach just before this weekend’s 26th National Drug Take Back Day.

DEA officials hold the event twice a year to facilitate the safe disposal of unused and expired medications.

Moody urges Floridians to participate in the event as opioid use rises.

“In the last annual total we have, we now lose over 110,000 to overdoses in the United States of America,” he said. “That’s more deaths as a result of drug overdoses in one country than in any other country in the world.”

DEA agents collected about 600,000 during Take Back Day in October.

They say more than 20,000 of those pounds come from Florida alone.
