Northern California Forecast: Scattered thunderstorms possible Friday

Unpredictable storms are most likely in the Valley and Foothills between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.

CLOUDS FORMING OVER THE LAKE TAHOE AREA. AND LET’S GET METEOROLOGIST HEATHER WALDMAN TO OBSERVE THE CHANGES. YES, IT’S BEEN A DRY DAY SO FAR AROUND TAHOE, BUT WE HAVE GOT SOME SHOWERS. BUILDING HERE IN THE NORTHERN PART OF THE SACRAMENTO VALLEY. RAIN, RELATIVELY LIGHT, AND THEY’RE MOVING PRETTY FAST. BUT WE WILL BEGIN TO SEE MORE NUMEROUS SHOWERS ON THE WESTERN SLOPE OF THE SIERRA LATER THIS AFTERNOON FOR LOW AREAS IN PLACES, IT’S THE BREEZE YOU’RE PROBABLY NOTICED, ESPECIALLY ACROSS THE DELTA WINDS RIGHT NOW. FAIRFIELD MAINTAINED AT 22 MPH THIS AFTERNOON UNTIL EARLY TOMORROW, WE WILL FEEL WIND GUSTS UP TO 30 MPH ACROSS THE VALLEY AND ALSO INTO THE HIGH SIERRA. THE TEMPERATURES WITH THAT WIND KEPT A LITTLE LOW. ONCE AGAIN, WE ARE IN THE HIGH 60S TO THE VALLEY MID 60S AT FAIRFIELD, HIGH 50S TO LOWER 60S IN THE HILLS, AND WE ARE IN THE HIGH 40S AT TRUCKEE AND SOUTH LAKE TAHOE. THIS AFTERNOON WILL REMAIN DRY FOR MOST OF US IN THE VALLEY. IF YOU’RE GOING TO BE OUTSIDE SACRAMENTO, YOU DON’T NEED THE UMBRELLA. TEMPERATURES WILL FALL INTO THE 60S F AT 8 PM, AND WE WILL DROPPE TO THE 50S F BY THE TIME WE START FRIDAY. NOW FRIDAY IS GOING TO START DRY FOR THE VALLEY. WE WILL HAVE SOME SHOWERS UP IN THE HIGH SIERRA, MAYBE A COUPLE OF SHOWERS IN THE FOOT OF THE HILLS. BUT AS WE GO THROUGH THE AFTERNOON INTO THE EVENING, THIS CLOUD LINE RIGHT HERE, THIS IS A COLD FRONT THAT’S GOING TO OPEN THROUGH. ONCE IT PROGRESS, WE SEE A GREATER CHANCE OF SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS IN THE VALLEY. THEREFORE, TOMORROW IS A DAY OF METEOROLOGICAL IMPACT FOR THE DEVELOPMENT POTENTIAL OF SOME OF THESE STORMS. IT IS MOST LIKELY BETWEEN 2:00 AND 6:00 IN THE AFTERNOON. AND ANY OF THESE CELLS COULD HAVE SOME SHOWERS, SOME SMALL HAIL, AND CERTAINLY SOME LIGHTNING. So, with it being Friday afternoon, a lot of people probably have plans, especially now that we’re entering spring, the weather is a little milder. SO LET’S HELP IN TIME HERE. THIS IS THE FUTURE. THIS IS FRIDAY AT 10:00 AM AGAIN, SOME CELLS MAY ALREADY BE APPEARING IN THE HILLS. YOU CAN SEE A LITTLE SNOW THERE IN THE MOUNTAINS. THAT SNOW LEVEL WILL REMAIN HIGH. AND WE REALLY DON’T EXPECT MUCH IN THE WAY OF SNOW ACCUMULATION. BUT WHEN WE GET TO THE NOON WARNING, THESE INDIVIDUAL SHOWERS AND STORMS WILL BE SEEN. NOT EVERYONE WILL SEE A SHOWER, BUT THE POTENTIAL IS THERE AS THE AFTERNOON GOES ON. THE PROBABILITY OF THESE SHOWERS AND STORMS WILL DECREASE TOWARD THE SOUTH. This is what the radar could look like tomorrow at 3:00 pm. PLEASE NOTE THAT YELLOWS AND ORANGES INDICATE THE POTENTIAL FOR SOME HEADER PRECIPITATION. SOME FAST WINDS TOO. THAT’S SOMETHING WE WILL HAVE TO FOLLOW. YOU LIVE WITH DOPPLER RADAR DURING OUR MORNING NEWS. WHEN WE ARRIVE ON FRIDAY AFTERNOON, WE LOSE THE SUN. WE LOST THE ENERGY THAT POWERED THOSE STORMS, AND THEY STARTED TO DEMOLIZE VERY RAPIDLY. THE REST OF FRIDAY NIGHT SHOULD BE QUIET. SO AGAIN, THE BEST CHANCE FOR THOSE STORMS IS FROM THE AFTERNOON INTO THE NIGHT. FRIDAY WILL ALSO BE ANOTHER COOL DAY, WITH HIGHS IN THE UPPER 60S TO LOW 70S. WE STARTED A. THERE WILL BE A LITTLE NORTH BREEZE IN THE AFTERNOON. IT WON’T BE AS BURSTY AS WHAT WE’RE SEEING NOW, BUT IT’S SOMETHING YOU’LL NOTICE. HERE’S BETTER NEWS AS WE GO INTO THE WEEKEND. THINGS ARE GOING TO DRY. THE WEEKEND LOOKS GOOD ALL WEEK. WE’LL GET BACK TO THE 70’S FOR SATURDAY AND SUNDAY, MAYBE A FEW CLOUDS TO START THE WEEKEND. There you have it. WE ALSO HAVE SOME 80’S ON DAY SEVEN. SO TOMORROW WILL BE A LITTLE BUSY. WE WILL KEEP
