SALINA, Kan. (KSNW) – A woman is dead after crashing her car into a power pole and tree in Salina.

It happened shortly after 12:30 a.m. Friday in Belmont, near Mayfair Drive. Police say a 21-year-old woman was driving south on Belmont in a 2012 Jaguar when she failed to negotiate a curve in the road and crashed into an Evergy power pole and then into a tree.

The woman died at the scene.

They had to remove his 22-year-old companion from the car. EMS took her to Salina Regional Hospital in critical condition.

Police say speed was a factor in the crash.
