Indiana State Police were called to the scene of an officer-involved shooting in Valparaiso Thursday afternoon.

A statement from the Valparaiso Police Department indicated that the scene was secured, but did not specify the location of the shooting. However, Valpo Parks referenced the post in a Facebook post around 4:15 p.m., which said, “Fairgrounds Park will be closed until further notice as police continue their investigation.” The fairgrounds park is located at 704 McCord Road.

Valparaiso Councilman Peter Anderson, a fifth-place Republican, posted on Facebook that there was an altercation and shooting in the park and that the suspect was the only one injured.

Valpo police said there is no threat to the public at this time, but did not provide further details indicating what precipitated the shooting.

Law enforcement agencies often call another agency to investigate when one of their officers fires a gun.
