Kilgore and Mayor Ronnie Spradlin have been featured in a New York Post article!

The article, titled “Student exchange program swaps kids in red and blue states,” was published on April 6 and focuses on the American Exchange Program, which sends high school students to spend time in cities in different areas of the USA. Kilgore has been the host city for the program for several years, welcoming students from places like California and New York, and sending Kilgore children as far away as Alaska.

Spradlin was interviewed for the article and spoke about the benefits of the program, which helps students unlearn some stereotypes about conservative southern cities.

On Friday, April 12, Kilgore High School’s one-act play production of “Flowers for Algernon” made school history by earning the Region Alternate award in the Region III, Area I competition.

In Texas, 152 4A schools began the journey earlier this year. Only 48 secondary schools reach the area level. Being named alternative to the region places KHS among the top 32 schools in the state.

Syghlas Morales was named a member of the all-star cast with honorable mention. Malachi Strachan was included in the All Star Cast. Seth Hardin was named to the honorary coaching team.

The company will perform on Thursday, April 18 at 7:30 pm in the KHS auditorium. Donations will be accepted at the door.
